Due to a decline in participation the Duluth Amateur Hockey Association chose to completely eliminate Squirt A travel hockey in 2017, it's one year later and the story continues.
In July 2017 the decision was made for all squirt youth players to play B level and they would be assigned to their teams per neighborhood. In an ongoing effort to regain public interest in the sport, DAHA chose to forego the "A" level, suggesting kids are too young to be determining talent level. The assumption is that by not separating talent, retention levels would grow as kids would have more interest in staying involved when they all are considered to have the same aptitude for the game.
