SEPTA officials have released new information suggesting the young man had fallen from the platform moments before the next inbound arrival. How or why is still unknown.

The body of Ryan Trefz, believed to have been struck by a SEPTA train, was found on the tracks of the Market-Frankford Line early Saturday morning around 3am. Trefz, 21 was a 3rd year player, captain and vice president of the Temple University men's ice hockey team. He graduated CB West High School in 2016 and played his youth hockey locally at Hatfield Ice for the Hatfield Ice Dogs. Details still remain unclear as to the circumstances surrounding what happened. Based on review of train and station surveillance videos, no foul play is suspected, but it had not yet been established if he entered the track area intentionally or if he fell. He appeared to have been alone. The body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s office to perform an autopsy to determine cause of death. As more information becomes available we will update the story.
