So you want to be the manager of your child's ice hockey team?



First, and foremost, make absolutely certain you are capable of fulfilling the obligation and want to take on what could be both fun and/or a huge headache. It requires a lot of attention, and prompt, punctual communication skills. In many cases you might have to act as a guidance couselor or mediator. 

This pertains to both novice and expert managers:
* From past experience, it's always a good idea to have several backup mouthguards on hand and an extra equipment bag with at least one each of each piece of equipment, (if possible). Kids ALWAYS lose their mouthguards and forget gear.

  • Plan season with head coach, ie schedule, tournaments, team functions/parties
  • Able to attend all mandatory team/club meetings
  • Regular communication with parents (verbal, paper, email, etc )
  • Coordinate uniform/equipment sizing scheduling
  • Cordinate uniform distribution and/or any corrections due to defects or mistakes
  • Coordinate car-pool volunteer designations for practices, games etc
  • Maintain contacts for other teams Managers
  • Confirm referees for home games
  • Understand and always be aware of penalization and suspension rules. Stay up to date with weekly suspension list for your team and the team yours will be playing
  • Understand how to use sticker templates to print roster stickers for scoresheet
  • Meet with the other teams manager to ensure roster stickers are applied to all 3 scoresheets, white, pink and yellow
  • Collect and confirm all scoresheets are signed by refs, coaches and scorekeeper
  • Enter all scoresheets into league website, post-game and finalize
  • Send all league scoresheets to the league by email after entering into the league website for finalization
  • Collect and maintain team dues for non-league and tournament scheduling
  • Coordinate tournament scheduling
  • Coordinate non-league game scheduling
  • Coordinate and maintain volunteer list for locker room monitors
  • Coordinate and maintain volunteer list for scoreboard operation
  • Coordinate team check-ins at all tournaments
  • Coordinate team meal events at tournaments
  • Coordinate team activities at tournaments
  • Organize and order team apparel
  • Coordinate communication with team sponsor(s)
  • Coordinate fund raising events
  • Maintain Team Binder that contains:
- Official Team Roster (Certified Copy, USA Hockey or other...)
- Game Log (completion required) and Score Sheets
- Player Birth Certificates (Copies)
- Player Waiver Forms (USA Hockey)
- Signed Consent to Treat (Medical Release)
- Player Code of Conduct Forms (USA Hockey)
- Signed Parent Code of Conduct Forms (USA Hockey)
- Coaches Waiver Forms (USA Hockey)
- Canadian Tournament Applications
- Zero Club/Playmaker/Hat Trick Logs
- Board Policy on game times
- Incident Report Forms
- Home Tournament Volunteer Information
- USA Hockey Insurance Information

It was exhausting just reading all that let alone doing it. Anyone who signs up ti be a manager should qualify for immediate sainthood.
