Read the article in the link. This is for all the crazy hockey dads (and moms) that think their super talented PW, SQ or Mite is destined to play NCAA Hockey!

North American Junior Hockey Reaches a Crossroads - MYHockey

Sorry for the typo in the heading!

It's all a scam.

There is something like 1% (or less) of 18 year old, true freshmen that play on an NCAA D1 or D3.  Hockey is so stupid there is no D2. Or even dumber, there is a D2 division but it is only 1 conference. Stupid.

To play NCAA, you basically need to sit out 2-3 years of school and play Juniors.  NCAA teams won't take true freshmen, when they can pick a 20 or 21 yo out of juniors.  This is all so scammy and dirty.  It should be illegal.

Not to mention, Junior coaches and GMs are most scum bag individuals on the planet. ALL OF THEM!  They sign 25 players and lie  to all of them.  Then cut  5 a week before the season. Scum bags lying to 18 yos.

Just play club hockey in college as an 18 yo.  Forego Juniors and go to college.

I think the point of the article is that more top level kids will play juniors from 16-18 then go to college. Most teams will go the 26 full scholarship route/roster limit and take the best players they can. The 20+ year old freshmen will be left out of D1. More kids will stay longer in school but Hockey will become just like basketball, football and baseball. Teams will take top talent knowing they may lost a few kids each year to NHL, but most kids heading for AHL will just stay in college. College will become another top feeder system for the NHL. I also think more schools will start hockey programs at D1 level. D2 will never come about because there are just not enough teams. D3 is still good level and money is there because D3 schools find 80-90% "academic scholarships" for kids with 2.0 GPA's. I think this is a good thing for non-D1 kids but might be the death of Junior hockey. Those junior kids can now possibly get a 100% ride to D1 school. Free education with shot at NHL. Can't beat that. This will make all those crazy hockey dads salivate. They now have a shot at D1 hockey!

Sounds like little Johnny didn't make the cut. Are the coaches really the ones lying to little Johnny or is it the clubs and parents pumping out AAA teams and making promises of hockey glory?

All roads lead to beer league. The sooner you realize that and let Johnny have fun playing the better off you'll be.
