South outduels North in the Rock Cup 11-1

Going into the game, Council Rock North knew they had a tough task ahead of them, but despite the strong effort, North was mercy ruled by their arch-rival, CR South.

WARWICK, PA. - Coming out of the locker room, both teams were welcomed by rowdy student sections which seemed to energize both squads. So much so, that the game started out chippy and physical.

Once both teams settled in, the first period turned into a disaster for North as South exploited North’s inexperience to explode for 7 goals. South’s Matthew Constantini started off the scoring by poking in a puck that deflected off North goalie Rex Goldberg’s mask. South’s Bill Harrelson then got in on the action as he deflected a shot that was scorched from the point to give South a 2-0 lead. Then, Michael Roby went on a tear and scored the next 2 goals for South.  Jeremy Purcell put another one in for one South followed by Roby’s third goal to earn himself a hat-trick. South spectators showed off their hockey knowledge when they celebrated Michael Roby’s third goal by throwing hats on the ice. South put in 2 more goals to end the period, and all but put away North’s chances at pulling off a shocker at Revolution Ice Gardens tonight.

The rowdy atmosphere may have had an effect on some of North’s freshmen. Coach Gallagher said, “in the first two minutes, the environment might’ve gotten to them, and the speed of South was clearly evident with a lot of their players, we finally got into what we wanted in the second period”.

North was able to adjust after the first intermission and held South to only one goal in the second. North even got a goal for themselves. Vlad Litvinov, one of North’s few Seniors, celebrated Senior Night by putting a wrister right past Carson Lopez to send the north side into a frenzy. The second period ended with South ahead 8-1.

Coach Gallagher was impressed by Vlad’s goal, as he said he thought his goal “was excellent, it was placed perfectly, and it really riled us up. You take those little accomplishments when you can get them, and I’m really proud of him, I’m also proud of Colin and Will tonight as well”.

North showed some heart tonight as South showed they were clearly the superior team. The seniors William Sohn, Vlad LItvinov, and Colin Kiefer  played very well in what was their final Rock Cup. Freshman like Antonio DiLossi and Chris Hahn played exceptionally well tonight and seemed to thrive in the loud environment. Sophomore's like Wilton Pasch and Clare Schaffer got another crack at beating South in the Rock Cup, and they seemed very comfortable, as they used the body early and often to get the crowd on their feet.

South had two goalies going tonight, both goalies stopped all but one of North’s chances.

North had Rex Goldberg in net and he handled a lot of shots and saved 40 plus shots for the Indians. Coach Gallagher views him as a “pragmatic kid” and was impressed with his performance as well.

BOX SCORE: CR North Indians vs CR South Golden Hawks 11 27 2019

UP NEXT: North will look to get back in the win column as they square off against William Tennent on Wednesday December 4th with a 7:20 puck-drop at Revolution Ice Garden.
