If true at least those bastards at black bear didn't buy it. I know how much that would piss people off if it was kept a rink.

Thank goodness it's not being kept a rink like it would if the evil empire would have bought it.

consolidation is good, put better product out there, less teams, let kids play at levels they should be to develop - let the strong rinks, programs survive - have The Bear be slumlord doesn't help anyone, especially the most important person..... us (the consumer)

I wish the "slumlord" would have been around years ago to save our local rink. It's now an auto shop. Instead of a 15 min drive to the rink we must drive an hour, if traffic is lite for home games and practices. I think poor rink upkeep is on the rinks manager. We were in Pittsburgh toward the start of the season and the 2 BB rinks we played at were just as nice as they were a few yrs ago when we were there.

Consolidation can be ok if parents aren't letter hungry. As long as parents are willing to pay extra for letters the product will be watered down.

Funny, we travel more for my daughter's soccer club than we do for my son's hockey team. I agree that it would be a good thing if they employed a number of people. It's a father & son business open 3 sometimes 4 days a week and aren't really open to the public. The company I work for rents almost half the shop to use as a warehouse. When it was a rink, it employed more people.
When you get home after midnight on a Thursday to get up at 415 in the morning for work on Fri it sucks. And for the early practice we had times where it will take close to 2hrs because of rush hour traffic can be that heavy. He learned to skate and how to play hockey in the inhouse program at the closed rink. He loves hockey, so we do it. But yes, I would have much preferred BB buying it over what it is.
