AHF Sandbaggers of the year - Frederick Freeze
Topic: December 16, 2024, 11:06:32 AM
The votes have been tallied and it is unanimous, the Frederick Freeze A Gretzky Team has been awarded the coveted Sandbagger of the year award. Despite playing AA in the CBHL they entered A Gretzky for AHF. This past weekend they won the low A division in Lake Placid. Their record of 26-5 with 178 goals for and 58 goals against is remarkable. This is an organizational failure by Frederick.

Agreed...it is a travesty.

They have a AA and a Upper A team in the CBHL.  But their AA plays Upper A in the AHF.

And the AHF does nothing.

They are beating Upper A AHF teams by 13, 14 goals. Running up the score.

Laughable.....CLOWNS!

The Sandbaggers (MACERA) are 10-0 in CBHL AA (American).

They are also undefeated in AHF Upper A (just killing UA teams).

And they decide to enter an A tournament (2 levels down) in Lake Placid.

What an accomplishment!

One of the teams Frederick (Macera) played at Lake Placid was the "Navy Rams CBHL 16U A Lower Red  2-15-4  MHR 76.23."

So an undefeated  AA team in the CBHL went to LP to play a Lower A CBHL team that is 11 points lower than them in My Hockey....!

What a unit, MACERA is.....what a unit!!!

So proud of that scrappy macera team!

Okay, Thought Experiment:

You are an undefeated 16U AA CBHL American team (this is the lower CBHL AA division).  Obviously you should have played up in AA National (the upper AA CBHL division).  The average MHR of the National Upper AA division is 87.79.

You also played down in the AHF 16U Upper A and are ABSOLUTLEY crushing everybody.

Your record is 26-5-0 with a MHR of 87.21.

And now, you travel to Lake Placid for a tournament. What do you do?

Option 1)
Play in the Upper Division against these two teams:
--Team Philadelphia (Black) 16U A*** with a 20-6-1 record and a MHR of 85.04  Mind you...You have already beat Team Philly three times!
-- Chester County Cougars (National) with a record of 23-2-1 and a 84.55

Option 2)
Play in the Lower Division against these two teams:
--Navy Rams (Lower A CBHL team) with a  2 15-4 record and a MHR of  76.23
--One of DELCO Phantoms A teams  78.14 MHR or 75.17 MHR.

Footnote:
***Team Philly Black lost to Frederick Macera three times. Is playing as an Upper A team and chose to play in the higher tournament bracket.

The AHF needs to require the Cbhl to do parity.  They probably need to push parity back a week or two to accommodate that since Cbhl tends to form their teams later.

Take a look at Wissahickon’s 14 Lemieux team.  31-1 with 279 goals and only 45 given up.  I swear we see this same group of kids blowing everyone out every two years like clockwork.

Remember all the A American level banners from the Dvhl they had hanging up?  They took them down now, but it’s an organizational choice to play at AA and then low A, regardless of how good the team is.

I've been saying this for years now.  Too many levels causes this problem.  High A, Low A, this division, that division, etc... You're either Tier 1 AAA, AA or A.  Get rid of the B level.  Now that gives you 3 levels.

Tier 1 are the teams that only officially get the tier 1 charter thru the district.
Then Tier 2 AA & A.

You're either Elite and play Tier 1 or
a beginner/not a strong athlete and wanna play just for fun, etc... and play A.
Everyone else is in the middle at AA.

Also, In my opinion celebrating tier 2 national championships is a joke anyway.  Let's say a tier 2 team can't beat the top 30 tier 1 teams.  What are you celebrating?  That you're the 31st best team?

I don't totally disagree with your statement of levels. However, I think the problem is that teams are skewed too high for their actual level. For example, the majority of the AAA teams in the Metro Philly market are AA at best. They don't usually succeed when facing programs farther north in New England. Yeah, there are some isolated successful teams but the reality is that the JRFs are likely the only legit AAA program. Likewise, with the AHF suddenly every rink has pure AA teams. Most are A level teams. Looking at the 16U Gretzky division there are 3 legit top teams. Frederick should be playing AA. MYHA is also a really strong AA/A team. Team Philly is competitive with them but not at the same level. After those teams the competition drops off.
