Rams embarrass Knights with with a stampede of goals in a mercy rule decision

The North Penn Knights left scratching their heads in Thursday's 13-3 loss

COLMAR, PA - The headline says it all, the Pennridge Rams came to play last night, (as they always do) and the Knights didn't. This definitely wasn't a game of attrition by any means as the final shot count was 33-24 in the Rams favor, but the scoreboard said differently.

This storyline began and ended with no apparent game plan or strategy in place for one team, and the other ready to take on all comers as the regular season winds down and the top teams jockey for position in the standings down the final stretch. No anything was able to be generated from the away side of the ice, as the Rams skated all over the Knights from beginning to end scoring at will averaging a goal every two minutes in the second period before finalizing the ten-goal mercy rule decision with five more in the third. The cloud of apathy hanging over the North Penn bench was thick with only a handful of players showing any interest at all in playing. It wasn't a game of heroes for the Pennridge Rams, in fact they themselves looked miffed many of the times they scored, amazed in wonderment how their shots made it to the back of the net. Montagna's squad skates at full speed and sticks to a very strict gameplan from the first drop of the puck until the final whistle, and it's no wonder the Pennridge squad and teams alike throughout the SHSHL are successful year in, year out, regardless of the level of skill or talent moving through their respective programs.

Sparing the readers, the details. There were a ton of goals scored by the Rams and practically every Pennridge player figured into the scoresheet. It has yet to be mathematically determined, though it's beginning to look a lot like the Knights will miss the post season and Flyers Cup Tournament for the second straight year. Unless they can figure out a way to win a few of their final four games and hope the teams ahead of them crash in the standings they may be on the outside looking in, again.
