It's a shame, The Rink was home for a lot of scholastic hockey and a couple Colleges.  The 2 sheets at Steel Ice and the Muni outdoor rink won't have enough ice slots for everyone. Hopefully the PPL center will free up more slots

hockey in the valley is just fine. My friend told me the Phantoms have about 30 teams headed to the AHF and they have room to expand. Some of the colleges that played at the Rink may need to play in Wilkes Barre/ Scranton, Hatfield or go back to Body Zone in Wyomissing. I think the Muni rink will become the home of the scholastic league

consolidation is a good thing, this is what needs to happen in youth hockey in the NJ/PA area

I am part of the Valley, this is not a loss, builds stronger teams at Valley, resets kids at proper levels, scholastic hockey is not big like in NJ (where high school hockey has become a joke with co-op, tri-op)

The Valley will live on

The owner of Steel Ice should make a solid offer for the boards, Zamboni, nets and chiller and make a 3rd rink in Bethlehem. They have the grass lot behind the rink for to grow, a pole building like Hatfield green would fit perfectly.
