Saw the Royals fee is $200 and VFC is $500.

Did BB ruin it or did the previous owner wanting out ruin it? I guess when the old owner was looking to sell the parents should have banded together and bought the rink. Always big bad Black Bear that is keeping rinks from being bought out for buyers that may get rid of it all together. I wish BB was around 13yrs ago to buy our local rink that is now a diesel garage and sales. Instead of driving 15 min I have to drive an hour to a rink.

Who cares. Hockey is too expensive now and my kids will be leaving for other sports. Soccer (EDP= $2.5k) Lacrosse ($500) = $3000. Soccer = spring, summer camp, fall and indoor and lacrosse= winter clinics, & spring. Ice Hockey is too expensive, you need to spend on power skates & privates, skate sharpening, travel 4-5 times a season, and uniforms (included in other sports price) to be any good. After all is said and done you spend 2x what tuition is. To be good at lacrosse you need a stick, ball and wall and Soccer you need a ball and backyard. It is just not feasible for most families and that is why NJ is not producing a high number of top notch players anymore. NJ is a hot bed of talent for soccer and lacrosse because it is cheaper, you can practice everything on your own and more kids play it. Ice Hockey needs to reevaluate what they are doing or the sport will die in NJ.

So why are you posting about it?  Isn’t there a soccer board somewhere?

VFC is really trying to kids in with $500 tryout fees.  I hope a good portion of that is a down payment on the tuition.

I always thought the Enron guys were the smartest guys in the room, but the guy that's had enough of hockey's cost and moving his kids to other sports... that is the smartest guy in the room.

There's something to be said for low cost sustainability.  The greed is pushing the envelope and numbers will fall, and the great minds will wonder why.

Genesis raised rates so that they wouldn't need to ask parents for tournament money immediately after signing. Guess what? They didn't raise them enough so they are nickle and diming us for another 100 in the name of some BS fundraiser for nothing.

I cant wait to be done with hockey.

Curious to see increase year over year especially with black bear acquiring more rinks

Yes because non BB rinks aren't dealing with Bidens inflation cost. We are a non BB rink and have had increases ever other year under Obama & Trump and every year since Biden went in. Inflation hits everyone, do you really think owners anywhere aren't putting their cost onto the customer.

Was that in 2002? Thats with 2 practices per week? I call bullshit on that. What rink/org

BB owned rink.  A level.  About 50 games.

About $3,000 vs $3,300  (two tournaments paid for).

It's been going up 10% a year for years now.

I call bullshit on this. No way are you getting 2 practice per week 50 games and tournaments for 3k. What rink/org?

Bringing politics into this is ridiculous. Reality: Rich guy buys up rinks, creates a league, forces increase travel and additional showcase weekends, raises rates. Reality: Sticks and equipment come from overseas and outside of USA. Therefore your total cost this season will be significantly higher because of tariffs. Energy is more expensive and rinks eat up a ton of energy. Finally, the leagues insist on starting Labor Day and going basically till St. Patrick's. Too many games imho.
