I remember back in what I think was the 23-24 season, I was at a tournament where there were just not enough teams entered and in the finals was Bishop Kerny vs Ashburn extreme. BK was the #5 team in the country and ashburn was 66, a AA team, and a 5 goal underdog.

Ashburn lost by 6 and the game was not close.

'A' designations determine how much you pay. Mhr numbers are more telling when it comes to competitiveness

"A" designates not just how much you pay, but how much ice time you get too. AAA is usually 3hrs practice/week, 1 hr skills/week, 1 hr video/week and 1 hr off ice/week. You also get additional 2-3 hrs/week ice in spring (10 weeks) and a legit training camp in August. We even had extra ice some weeks when we had big games or tournaments coming up. Everyone says AAA is so expensive, but look at what you get compared to Tier II. It is a way better deal and you can negotiate pricing at all levels. Go to the hockey director and ask for a lower price. All they can do is say no, but most time you will get a discount.

What we get at tier2. 2.5hrs of ice time. 1hr of off-ice, 1hr chalk talk/video, 45 min gym (w/ a certified trainer), 5hrs of spring/summer practices. The rink gives our club a special rate for open hockey/stick time, $100 from Mid-April to August (twice a week).
Total cost this yr with the with the extra $100 is $3150. Closest AAA team to me is $5800.
I spend an extra $3-400 for my son to get about 20hrs of skating and stick handling lessons with AAA coaches from after evals-start of season. So, my total is $3450-3550 which is a savings of over $2200.
Add scholastic in there and you can add another hr of practice a week from mid Sept-Feb/March. I know AAA kids also play scholastic but none of our AAA players come to a single practice, and they get no discount for not coming. Our scholastic coach is the head coach on a teir2 AA team and the assistant coach that runs most of the practice is a college head coach.
Our teir2 program also has a program for a parent can apply for financial aid from as little as monthly payment forgiven up to $1000 off fees.
Like someone else on here said that their in-law spent $9000 for AAA between team fees and travel expenses. The most I spent in a yr for team fees, travel expenses (tournaments) and the extras is around $4500.
Go ahead and keep spending $2200-4500 more than me because you think it's a great deal. Reality is there is 98% chance our kids will end up in the same place when they are older, beer leagues. To each is their own.

you say your total for team fees and extras was 3450-3550 saving $2200, then say with the total with fees and tournaments is around 4500. I take it the team doesn't do many tournaments if the expenses are only 900-1000 dollars. I've spent that on one tournament already. 3 nights at a hotel is roughly 600 + gas and food easily another 3-400. The $9000 for AAA is pretty accurate from what I've seen. I know people that spent over $10000 in a season. Team fees, travel expenses (airfare, hotels, car rental, food and gas)

Everyone ends up in beer league ... even former NHL players and Stanley Cup champions.

Won't be anyone's offspring from the parents posting on here. The key word in case you missed it they used was OUR kids. Former NHL, Stanely Cup Champions aren't in the beer leagues at 22, 23 yrs old like 98% of the current youths will be if they want to continue playing after Juniors or college. I like the effort put forth though.

Since joining the AHF our tournament entries have gone down. We did the 3 AHF showcases and 3 tournaments. We did 2 local tournaments and one tournament 5-8hrs away. The local tournaments don't require a hotel and neither does the showcases. For the showcases we use Vrbo instead of a hotel. We find houses that can sleep 16-18 people and share the cost. We will get 2-3 houses close to each other depending on how many want to stay. Instead of paying 150-200 a night it usually cost each family about 200 for the weekend. Each family plans a meal to make and brings the food with them. The club covers the cost of 1 local tournament; we have a corporate sponsor that covers 1 tournament, and we do fundraisers to help cover the rest. The worst year fundraising was roughly $4300. We only had to cover the cost of 1 tournament and this year none. This year we are doing 2 local tournaments and the 4th showcase, from what we were told no hotel is required so we will use Vrbo.

Saw the Team PA Brick team was announced. How come the "best 10 year old" in the country that plays for PHC isn't on the team? I find it hard to believe a future 1st round NHL draft pick (according to his father) wasn't given a free spot!

So, you're saying he maybe one of the .0005% of the 0.2% of youth hockey players to make the NHL and then play in the beer leagues. I personally find it extremely hard to believe that a parent would way overestimate their kid's ability, especially in the Eastern Pa/NJ area. I love when a parent pulls their kid from a club because they won't place their kid where they belong then goes to another club to be put on an even lower team.

Approximately 0.2% of youth hockey players make it to the NHL, showcasing the competitive nature of professional hockey.
According to a study by the NHL, only around 1% of players who play in Junior hockey leagues will make it to the NHL.
According to Quant Hockey there are 303 American born players currently in the NHL. 5 are from Pa and none of the those are from Eastern Pa.
Let this sink in as you spend 8k+ for AAA hockey.
