THE STORY

The Council Rock Indians, behind the tutelage of head coach, Doug Melvin completed a third-place finish in the Suburban Hockey Leagues Liberty Conference, the strongest division in the SHSHL. In the postseason, the Indians faced second-place Bishop Eustace in the semi-finals defeating them and moving on to face the first-place Cherry Hill East Cougars in the Suburban League championship. To everyone but Council Rock's surprise, the Indians upset the Cougars in an exciting 5-4 overtime finish. The Indians moved on to the Flyers Cup where they defeated some team paving their way to the Flyers Cup Finals. The storybook run would end here. Ryan jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but goals by John Rankel and Matt Harrington gave Council Rock a 2-1 first-period advantage. The Raiders tied the game in the second period, before Rankel gave the Indians a 3-2 lead off of a Steve Strzelecki pass with 1:46 remaining. The Raiders outscored the Council Rock in the third, 3-1. Not before Rankel completed the hat trick to close the gap by one. In the end that wouldn't be enough to complete the comeback. Archbishop Ryan won by a final score of 5-4. This was Council Rock's first visit to the Flyers Cup Final, but wouldn't be the last! John Rankel won the tournament's "Atari High Scorer" award finishing with 9 goals, (two hat tricks) and 4 assists.
