Transition from Bantam to Midget
Topic: June 22, 2023, 04:28:08 PM
My son is playing Bantam B this season as a first year Bantam.  That's been his MO...first year B, second year A.  Starting in Midgets, there is no more B level however.  How does that work for players that can't make an A team in their first year at that level?  Do they just play school hockey?

I was wondering if the talent pool for A teams kind of thins out by that point.  Anyone that is going anywhere is already in AA/AAA or juniors.  So maybe a low A 16U midget team is the equivalent of a B team?

Pretty much low A at 16U is loaded with B level players. One reason is at Midget clubs like to build larger rosters. Example is our club fielded 4 teams at bantam with 13-15 players per team and at 16U rostered 3 teams with as close to 20 players as they could. The tough part is at 18U were clubs will only want to field 1 or 2 strong teams. Our club cut almost a teams worth of players because at 18U they don't have low/high A, just A & AA.
