LATE COMEBACK ISN'T ENOUGH FOR NORTH TO OVERCOME QUAKERTOWN

North’s 2nd-period woes continue as they fall to Quakertown 5-4. It was a valiant effort as they were down 5-1 at one point in the game. They scored three straight to keep it close.

HATFIELD, PA. - Quakertown opened up the scoring with a beautiful goal by Jake Dilger. North responded with a goal of their own less than a minute later on a rebound goal by Clare Schaffer. This was her 2nd goal of the year. Coach Gallagher knew they would have to score the hard way, “that is how we have to score our goals. There isn’t much talent on this team, yet, it’s developing, our goals are gonna have to be greasy goals”.

Quakertown’s Brandon Minkoff and William Shaw showed off some flashy moves to put two goals on the board for Quakertown before the end of the first making it 3-1 Quakertown. It only got worse for North in the second period.

The second period didn't look bad on the score sheet, but Quakertown absolutely dominated North. They outshot them 11-4 and after 11 minutes of plugging away, Quakertown finally scored a goal off the stick of Eric Orzehoski.  Quakertown took a 4-1 lead into the third.

The third period brought better luck for the Indians. The first sign of light came rather early for North, as Chris Hahn ripped a shot top shelf for his second goal of the year. Vlad Litvinov then got in on the party as he took it coast to coast for a big goal to bring North within one. They trailed by one for 19 seconds, before Quakertown’s Jake Dilger killed the good vibes of the North fans by showing some flair, making a couple moves before putting the puck in the net past North goalie Rex Goldberg. Vlad Litvinov put some juice back into the Indian faithful when he made it a 5-4 game with 1:36 left. But despite pulling the goalie and playing 6 on 5 hockey, the Indians could not score the equalizer as Quakertown escaped with a 5-4 victory.

Coach Gallagher said he was “just happy in the third period that they showed a lot of resolve, and mounted a pretty aggressive comeback. You know we got within one in that third period, we just couldn’t get over the hump at the end”. He also claimed the “the effort in the third was something to build on.''

Now onto the goalies. North goalie Rex Goldberg had a great night in goal, as usual. He stopped 32 of the 37 total shots that came his way. This performance earned a stamp of approval from coach Gallagher, as he said that “Rex is usually pretty stellar in net as he was tonight”.

Meanwhile, Quakertown goalie Jacob Wallower had his ups and downs, but eventually came out victorious facing only 15 shots and saving 11 of those. With this performance, he earned his first win of the 2019-2020 campaign.
