Although the winning record is correct, it’s important to note a few missing pieces to the allegations.
1. Prior to this season, Frederick didn’t offer AA so no one knew what to expect.
2. This group of AA boys had never played together prior to having to commit.
3. These boys have played without any ice since October!!!! Their practices consist of the gym, video review and bonding. Their only time together, as a team, on the ice has been during games!
4. The Lake Placid tournament was begged to put this team in a different bracket. THEY refused!
5. No one enjoys winning by landslides. It’s not fun for anyone involved. The players have to hear it on the ice and the parents have to hear it in the stands! Believe it or not, not everyone wants a trophy, rather wants the kids to play teams that challenge them so they can become better!
So, referring to a group of teenage boys as sandbaggers when they’ve had zero say in anything really minimizes what these boys have accomplished this year with very minimal resources all season. This is nothing shy of an amazing group of boys who have overcome seasonal circumstances that would have stopped others in their tracks! Say what you will but we are proud of every single one of them for not only adjusting to the unforeseen circumstances of the season but also for demonstrating resilience in dealing with people like this all season!
