You cant use the kid of an nhl vet to make a case in point on anything…lol…
That said .. my kid is an ok hockey player but he is a better student. He will play club hockey if he wants, likely on an academic scholarship. He will not be hustling parents for hockey dollars or pumping gas for the rest of his life.

Well look at the case here. The kid of an NHL Vet, who has all of the tools, connections and money to get his kid into AAA at the earliest age. He played AA until the age of 14. Some parents here insist their kids MUST have AAA at the age of 6.

I dont know the background, maybe he played other sports or the dad was training him, etc. What value is AAA before checking and puberty hits? Will your kid be closer to 5' or 6'? How will they respond to getting hit?

1. More Ice time
2. More tournaments
3. For some teams, the cost isn't much more than T2
4. More experienced skaters
5. More game sense- staying on sides, puck movement, knowing what a breakout is.

Just to name a few...

He is the perfect example to use. I would think his dad would know more about hockey development then the average joe blow parent and most "hockey directors" at the rink. The fact that he had his kid play tier2 until bantam and not AAA at Mite-Peewee is exactly the point of the OP.

1. More ice time is questionable depending on the parent. My son who is still teir2 is on the ice for practice/lessons 4.5-5.5hrs/week during the season. 4.5 if scholastic has a game during their practice slot 5.5 if they don't. Total for Travel, Scholastic and lessons was $3300. Plus, the summer public/open hockey package the club gets from the rink for $100. so, $3400 total. The teams also get 5 1hr skill/practice sessions from mid-July up to the start of season practices.
2. More tournaments, again questionable. We get 1 included and did 3 extra tournaments last yr for an added $200. The other yr we did 6 extra tournaments with fundraisers and sponsors it was only $250 more.
3. Total last yr was $3600, the closest AAA for his age is $5000. $1400 is a nice amount to save. They target 51 games, doesn't say if tournaments are included, just 4 showcases. With scholastic and travel they play 44 games, not including tournaments. The AAA players on the school team missed almost half the games and just about all the practices.
4. at mites-peewee 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
5. same as 4 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, to quote another post " this made me pee my pants a little"

The team does 1hr a week of chalk talk where they watch their game footage from the past weekend. 45min of gym training with a certified trainer (included in fees from August-March) and 1hr team ran off ice a week.

My son and a couple of his teammates plan on going out for AAA when they are 14, they are all going into their 1st yr at bantam. Coaches want my son and his best friend to go this year, but they want to play a year with checking at tier2 1st.

It's not about dubai call girls. It's hockey related and pretty funny, came off of AHF parents uncensored facebook page. Wish I could have just put the image and not the link, but this site won't allow it.

Yes, #3 is likely similar

But how can you ignore how much money the additional tournaments or trips cost. Just looked at a random AAA team, they had like 6 weekends of games on places more than 5 hours away, and then one trip to Florida.

We are talking 20+ nights of hotels, multiple plane tickets. And then all the other expenses. Could add anywhere between $8k-15k more right there. And also figure the regular games are further as well. And this example is a good team who likely justified going on these trips. What about the teams that have no business being AAA (which is what, anyone who pretty much is ranked lower than 30-40th?)

I agree that AAA at lower ages is likely a waste of time, money and most importantly, life hours for most kids. multi-sport immersion and fun is so much better.

keep the dream alive - your hockey dollars keep alot of old hustlers and hockey players going strong, tax free!

My kid played AAA since he was 9. He is now 13. He is way ahead of other kids moving to AAA from AA. It may be he is just better, but his understanding of game and processing skills are more advanced than AA kids. I think this comes from 4 hours of ice per week and games that are fastr than lower levels. He also had a blast with 8 kids that he has been playing since mites and has formed great friendships that will last a lifetime. Stop hating on AAA. I say to each their own. There is no perfect path in any sport. Parents do what is best for their kids. And the extra A means nothing to my family. I don't even tell people my kid plays AAA, I just say he play ice hockey.
