My kid was at PHC tryout. Didn’t make team. You send them and email and get moved to Hurricanes tryout for free.

One of Phc 2015 goalies had a custom helmet painted and posted before tryouts were done. Imagine selling false hope to an 8 year old when the spots are clearly filled!

Obviously, the family has no clue, AND much more money than brains! GOALIE COACHES TAKE NOTICE! You can probably milk this family for UNLIMITED funds! Might even be a MILLION DOLLAR PAYDAY through age 18!

Every AAA and AA team are mostly set before every tryout from 8u to 18u.  Once you learn that, life is easier.  Don't go to a tryout unless the coach asks you to come.  Also, haven't paid for a tryout in a long time.

What organization allows you NOT to pay for a tryout?

Very true, there's likely 2 or 3 spots available at most.  If you aren't invited to come... the odds of you making AAA or AA is very slim.

Not sure how someone isn't paying for tryouts as its such a money maker for the club.  I guess if you are invited by a coach and tell them you aren't coming unless they can get it waived is an approach you could take.  If you are a returning player.... its the "cost of doing business".  Same can be said for the silly pre-skates that are "optional".

I think that happens at a few teams- Jr. Flyer, Little Flyers and PHC. Other Tier 1 Teams I know of had about 8 slots filled and 5 open slots. 5 Open slots is pretty good. PHC had the entire team picked. I heard the only team that had openings was 2012. They lost their top 4-5 players and took some borderline AAA players to fill out the roster. My kid did not want to tryout this year because he is happy with his AA team!

Heard FY is getting problem familes from Igloo, Mercer and FE. Kids can play, but parents are nightmares. Be careful who you tak ML & JH! These families will ruin your rink.

that's the Hollydell "way" of getting you to stay...when you don't make the AA team (bc majority are decided as well), you won't have to pay to tryouts for the A or B team either.
