Sizzle to fizzle, Knights lose County Line Cup to CB South in Blow Out

Central bucks South wins the annual County Line Cup

COLMAR, PA - The much-anticipated pre-Thanksgiving showdown took place Wednesday night between the Central Bucks South Titans and defending County Line Cup champs, North Penn Knights.

The North Penn squad had one thought on their minds besides Thanksgiving break, going back-to-back for their second consecutive County Line Cup win. But the Titans had different reservations, still in disbelief from the previous season's shocking loss, CB South set their sights on one objective, to take back ownership of the coveted mid-season championship trophy.

The game started conservatively with both teams feeling each other out. Back and forth play with carefully selected shots until J.D. Crouch started the scoring off with what appeared to be an unintentional shot from the point that slid off his blade. It skidded to the net finding its way behind the North Penn goalie on the short side post at 9:24. Three minutes later a missed clearing pass by the Knights offense resulted in a Titans two on one below the NP hash marks where Sean Cutter broke free and went glove side high to extend South's lead to 2-0. The Knights got on the board with less than two minutes to play in the first when Jimmy Boyle stripped a Titan forward in the neutral zone and transitioned leading a two on one break. Boyle found Matt Yothers on the far side and Yothers deposited the puck behind the Central Bucks South goalie closing the Titans lead to 2-1 at the end of one. CB South closed out the first with an 11-5 shot advantage.

In the second period CB South tightened up their blueline making it virtually impenetrable to NP advances through the middle. But the Knights continued to try unsuccessfully to penetrate one on three through the slot where the puck was turned over with regularity in favor of Titan transition. The score remained the same and the shot advantage was still in favor of the Titans 16-10.

The third period was marred with unforced turnovers by the Knights and the Titan's capitalized on every opportunity awarded by scoring 4 more unanswered goals to close the game out 6-1. The Knights managed only 3 shots in the third while the Titans added 14 more for a total shot advantage of 30-13.
