Girls Hockey
Topic: February 10, 2026, 04:47:39 PM
I have a 2013 daughter that is playing AA boys. Plain and simple, she is an average player on an average team with an average coach.
Should i have her continue playing boys? We are also somewhat new to the area and have not much familiarity outside our club and the teams we play against.
What are the top girls programs around? And any insight into each of them would be great. Coaches? Level of competition? Amount of ice time? Etc.

Thanks All for advice

Playing with boys at checking depends on the girl. Is she strong on her skates? Is she physical? Does she have some size to her? Does she keep her head up when carrying the puck? The lower the level the rougher checking is. Depending on your location the best girls program is Jr. Flyers. Little Flyers & Princeton Tiger Lillies are ok. Up north, Colonials are good. Liberties out of Voorhees are getting better, but not at the AAA/AA level of JF, LF, PTL or Colonials. If she can hack it stay with the boys for a year.

I have a daughter at D1 school. She played with the boys through her 15U season then went the Prep Scholl route. She is now 5'5'' and was that height at 15U. Playing with boys depends on the girl. Is your daughter tough enough to check and get checked? That is the real question. My daughter loved the physical part. She was a middle of the pack player on the boys, but once she went to girls she was the best player. She credits playing with the boys making her better.  There is a girl at Shattucks from the area and she played boys until 15U. She signed with Minnesota! There are plenty of girls that went D1 that did not play checking with boys. So it really depends on what your daughter wants to do. We left the decision to play with boys with our daughter and she realized after 15U it was getting too rough. She ultimately made the decision to go all girls. If you trust your daughter, let her decide. Good luck!
