This post is almost as bad as the daddy coach playing his kid half the game! If you want to make ice-hockey better make it illegal for parents to coach or run the scoresheet. Daddy coach of sons team plays his kid half the game and he is the worst player on the team. Coaches so his son can play a higher level!

Soooooo, who are you going to get to coach all these A and B teams?  As well as increase the cost for all to pay them.  In theory you are right, but its not practical.

I guess my experience has been mostly honest parents.  I put what the refs tell me.  Now I do keep my own tally for my kid, but it’s rarely off by much.

Former daddy coach here. The nicest thing any parent said to me was, “If it wasn’t for the name on the back of the jersey, I would have never guessed your son was on the team because you treated everyone the same.” I never spoke to my kids on the bench. If I had something critical to say, I would ask another coach to say something to my son. When I was an assistant coach on my sons’ teams, I would coach the defense because my sons played forward to avoid impartiality. When the team voted for captains, I would ask the head coach not to make my sons a captain for fear of parent backlash. One coach said, “The team voted, not the coaches. It would be unfair to your son to not respect the kids’ votes.”

Goalie parents are the worst to run the scoreboard. We had several goalie parents that would add shots to boost their kids stats. Literally if a shot missed the net they counted it as a shot. Had to explain many times that a shot only counts if it goes in or hits the goalie. Hitting the post and crossbars don’t count. LOL
