This is a perfect advertisement for why you should not let you kids play in the DVHL.

and living in PA what other options are there?

In-house? My kid will be done with hockey before I let that happen. That isn’t fair to him or the other kids that suddenly have to deal with a AA kid.

If you don't like your current options or are unsure of things you can always not tryout and look for a team after tryouts.  The advantage is you then get to choose your best option.  The downside is the options could be limited.  But I would much rather wait and pick the best option available than be stuck with one I know is bad from the start.

Tier II hockey.. best option is always let your child play with his friends and enjoy himself.  When hockey is over, that's what will be remembered.

What if your kids are more interested in competing than they are of playing with friends? And not just playing for the heck of it?

Every kid is different.  As long as its the kid (not the parent) wants to play at a higher level, then let them, help them, and support them to the best of your ability to do just that.

The point is the DVHL shouldn't be able to force you to sign the agreement at the first registration. The bylaws conflict AAHA and USAH open tryout rules.

What bylaws? Must be new. Fought that fight about 10 years ago.

AAHA: "That's a contract issue. We don't get involved in that."

USAH: "AAHA is in charge of hockey in the area.  They have final say."

With all the talk about retaining players, fair play, ethics etc. it shocked me that nobody cared about organization business practices. I can get not wanting to dictate team by team. But this is a league rule. A league that controls hockey in a major market.

One thing that harms players in this area is how little oversight there is.  In other areas there it goes league>affiliate>district<>USAH

Here it's pretty much all the same people top to bottom.

Did some asking around and there was an email sent by Glenn outlining how the DVHL by-laws were in violation of AAHA regulations. At York Devils tryouts you were informed it was not required to sign the agreement until the 2nd tryout. So at least one club is doing it right.
