Just saw a video on USAHockey and their assessments of players below 15U. They are waiting longer to identify best prospects due to size imbalance before puberty fully sets in. The so called "man-child" at 11u, 12u, 13u and 14u are not longer being looked at as the best players. 90% of these kids do not amount to anything. Also, teams that dominate and win at the 14U and younger ages are usually the biggest teams but not the most talented teams. They win because they are bigger, faster and shoot harder. Once 15U hits these advantages fade fast as smaller kids catch up and these elite teams players are no longer dominate. Development of skating, hard work, learning to play the game the right way and more skating are what is needed at 14U and below. Time will tell if USA Hockey is right, but for the past 5 years, they have been spot on! PHC, LF, JRF, RH and others putting super teams together is a joke. It means nothing once kids are 15 and older. This is why UDT league 15u & 17U are coming. Parents of younger kids should take this as a warning. Work on the kids game and don't caught up in stats or winning.  Most of all do not get caught up in the hockey director touting how they win.

Fun to read but not much truth.

For starters the new league is NDL.

Second, if you look at USA Hockeys NTDP. They select who they believe are the best 15 year olds. Most of those kids have been at the top of their birthyear at an early age. The idea the all these players come out of nowhere at 15 is a fantasy. Of course everyone can name the outliers. It’s like saying the NFL Draft first round is a useless because Tom Brady was a 6th round pick.

Wait, so my kid can’t develop skating, hard work and learn to play the right way on a good team? He can only achieve this by playing on weaker teams?

That is not what I said. Yes some top AAA teams will develop your kid, but most want to win and will throw your kid aside if a better player comes along. At 12U or younger this is not what should happen. They should stick with the kid that has been there and not chase wins.  Don't chase winning over development. If you can get both great. If not, chose development.

It’s letter chasing season.  Time for parents to get on wagon and chase those letters.  The more letters you have the better chance of making the show.  I hear there is a lot of movement going to happening because why not it’s that time of year again.

For all 2014 and younger teams, tonight is the moment of truth. Who will jump teams? What team will kids make that were booted out of other Tier 1 teams? What happens to all the "Daddy Puck" kids who were told to find another rink? Will some of the so called AA "Superstars" try out for Tier 1? Will kids cut at PHC, JrF, LF and other top AAA teams move to the lower AAA teams or just stay at rink for AA? The suspense is killing me!

Pretty simple this year, the strong got stronger and the weak got weaker. The “supplemental tryout” posts should be up by tomorrow.

Sounds like all rinks had decent turn outs, except 1.
