Really?  How is playing on a 1/3rd sheet of ice that is non-standard size better than splitting ice with another team?  I get it if the time is spent on skills, but team concepts have to be better coached on a 1/2 sheet of ice than on a mini-rink.

probably a rink employee speaking there

so 8 year old venom never practice there, but 12 years olds do?

then watch in a game, the kids dont know proper spacing, how to complete a long pass. 12 year olds skating on the mite rink look like they are about to kill each other if they run into each other

Forgot to add we have a bar! In a hockey rink that hosts youth sports. We are so awesome. No possibility of a parent getting drunk and talking crap about kids on the ice. That would never happen because Hollydell is awesome!!!!!!!!!!

Who cares about forcing kids onto small rink. At least it's ice. What do other rinks have? Family oriented? Split ice with cooperation from teams? Rink directors that are not about money? Tier II teams that are about development and not wining? Other rinks are a bunch of losers. Hollydell rules because we have PHC and Venom!!!!!!!

FWIW - Twin Ponds has the puddle. There's plenty of room for grown men to do drills with several players involved. Mite and squirt teams can do a full practice with game simulation drills with no problem. Genesis has the same thing with Hockey Heaven. And for old heads, Viking Ice Arena which no longer exists also had a puddle which the Jr Flyers at all levels used to use for additional practice time.

Not sure what the issue is. A couple years ago the #1 ranked 15u AAA club in the country practiced on that surface at times for tight quarter situations. Gotta think fast there.

serves as good extra ice for established full ice players like that. how does it help when you are trying to teach kids how to play fill ice dimensions, some kids who have barely played full ice before? then they get on full ice and look clueless

People forget hockey is a game and the kids have fun of all ages.  It is better than no ice at all.  The owner had a vision and put in what he could fit in that space no doubt.  People make do with what they have available...it may not be the best for everyone but at least it is ice. Play hard!
