Rinks opening during quarantine

I’m hearing rumors of some rinks secretly being open during quarantine. Does anyone else know about this?

Guest:
If it’s a secret, why would anyone say anything?

Guest:
If they open before allowed by PA Health Department, the rink most likely won't be insured and coaches will not be individually insured. Professional organizations are telling coaches to check with their attorneys and insurance providers before going onto rinks opening before allowed.

It would also most likely be a Safesport violation and reportable offense against coaches since they would be encouraging children to put themselves in harm's way.

It's bad ethically and morally. Anyone who takes part should absolutely be reported to all professional organizations and lose their coaching privileges. If a child gets ill and it can be tracked to a coach, I would absolutely expect parents to sue; any liability waivers would not hold up.

Because it's wrong and dangerous and coaches are going to get sued if someone gets sick. If an outbreak is traced to a rink that wasn't supposed to be opened, that rink will be shut down and possibly for good.  They would absolutely have their occupancy license revoked.

Coaches can and should be reported to Safesport. Anyone with Safesport training must report coaches who are taking part. Rinks can not open until Green Phase in Pennsylvania and no contact sports until all restrictions are lifted. Only non-contact drills are allowed in Green Phase.

Assume any rink opening secretly is not going to care much about disinfecting or keeping kids or staff safe. And yeah, wait until an outbreak is traced to a rink that wasn't supposed to be opened. Can see USA Hockey suspending the whole team.
