Hockey Dad Assaults Teen Refs
Guest:
RHC and Hollydell last year. Flyers Youth this year. What the hell is going on? I mean Hollydell/PHC love to talk crap about other rinks, but they had a parent brawl last year for god's sake! RHC is the worst organization for parents and coaches in entire Atlantic District! Now, holier than thou ML has a non-sanctioned (no USAHockey, no Safesport) coach attack a ref, all the while he is posting crap on here about FE! This is just an embarrassment for FY, but also since they play out of Flyers Training Center, this is an embarrassment for the Flyers. ML should be fired immediately and the entire FY program should be rebuilt. This referee will probably own FY by the time his lawyers are done. I am very happy I left FE after last season.

Welcome to the world of youth sports. This is not just a problem in ice hockey but all sports. I blame this on the push to make parents feel that if a kid is not a top players by age 12 they will never amount to anything. If coaches and parents would realize you can't tell if a kid will be good until they are 15-16 and even later. Everyone should watch the 30 for 30 on the Kirkland, Washington 1982 LL World Series Champs- "Little Big Men". It is about Cody Webster a 5' 7" and 175 pound 12 year old pitcher who dominated and beat the big bad Taiwan team. People had him pegged for the Major Leagues. Cody never pitched past freshman year and played outfield after. Payed 1 year in college. Cody go to line about why he was good is "I was good when I was 12. I was average when I was 18." He said his size and skills peaked before everyone else caught up. He wound up like 5'11" and 195 lbs. Good size but not for a pitcher.
Fun fact about the 1982 LL World Series- 2 NHL Players- Stéphane Matteau & Pierre Turgeon- played for Canadian team. Also lets not forget Ray Ferraro & Chris Drury. You would think since it is the LLWS tons of kids made Major League baseball. Since LLWS started only 58 kids have played in Majors. This goes to show that none of this matters until kids are older. Enjoy the ride and stop with all this BS.
Referees need to ignore everything or start throwing coaches and parents out of the rink. Bill Murray has a great quote "It’s hard to win an argument with a smart person, but it’s damn near impossible to win an argument with a stupid person". I guess Bill Murray was a hockey ref!
