I completely agree with the insane amount of sandbagging this past weekend at IW's. Why do entire teams that are all AA and AAA caliber constantly play down in the A division. At least play in the AA division. What does a team get out of completely dominating a true A level team that is AAA. The game is essentially over before the 3rd line even gets on the ice. Its beyond pointless. I can't understand why a parent of a kid on a AAA team would be completely fine with their kid playing 2 levels down. These summer tournaments are a total free for all and a complete joke.

The parents who put their kids in lower divisions to earn a trophy are only doing their kids a disservice. If their kid cares about getting better and developing into a strong hockey player, then these parents are only holding them back - all for a crappy medal and a picture with a banner.
These kids will never get better without being challenged or at least playing at their current level. Playing down only makes players regress.

Its cheap ice and the kids have fun. Why should higher level kids be penalized by not being able to play because everyone else just wants to pretend they play hockey? Its summer crap hockey, everyone knows it, been that way for 10 years at least.

I think that you missed my point about those teams playing in their proper divisions. AA should be playing in AA not A or B. As for AAA, there are tournaments for tier 1 players and teams as well. How are higher levels kids being punished? Play at your appropriate talent level, problem solved. The lower talented kids are ones getting screwed not the higher ones. There has to be a better way. Just because it has been that way forever doesn't make it right.

"Pretend they play hockey"- you are an a-hole for this comment. Just another AAA parent thinking their kid is great because they play AAA. AAA kids at Bantam and below are only good because they are bigger and stronger than lower level kids. Do not diminish the lower level kids skill or hockey acumen. I have been around hockey for over 30 years. I love seeing these JO AAA parents freak out once puberty hits and their little Evan is no longer a AAA player because kids that were not as good at 11 years old passed them. AAA parents=losers!

There are 35-40 skaters at each age level in the SE PA, DE, SNJ area that could be considered AAA players. Out of this 35-40 about 8-10 are top level, 20 are mid-level and the rest low level. As a former D1 player and a dad of a D1 player, parents do not understand how much talent is in other regions. They think because a kid scores 30 goals at the 12U AAA the kid is a superstar. In reality he is most likely a mid-level kid compared to NE, MN, CA, etc. Parents have not clue!

Spring/Summer hockey tournament season.  A time for kids that struggle on their on AAA teams to win by playing lower level hockey.  I mean lets be for real do levels even matter for spring summer.  Parents have their kids play a full season over the spring summer months so they can collect their medals they do earn during regular season tournaments.  Many of these teams are money grabs.

Spring hockey, regular season hockey, clinics, power skates and privates are all money grabs. Hockey is a business and people need to make money. If your kid loves hockey let them do it all. If not let them play what they want. The issue is not the kids, it is the crazy hockey parents that ruin everything. Stop posting about your kid scoring 7 goals and 7 assist in 5 games at some worthless spring tournament. No one cares! Let you kid have fun and stop putting pressure on them. If a kid is AAA and plays an A tournament, who cares. If you kid is not AAA and plays against that AAA kid and gets beat, tough luck. Players are not always equal and spring hockey is for fun. Stop complaining about that AAA kid. If anything blame the stupid, delusional parent that thinks just because their 10-12 year old plays AAA they will end up getting drafted. Parents can be so dumb, especially Rain Man from 1494's!
