Frederick Freezes' failure
Topic: September 23, 2025, 09:22:45 AM
The Frederick Freeze has failed the best team within their organization.   The 18AA team which is comprised mostly of the 16AA team that won the CBHL American Division Championship last season and several Frederick kids who have been playing on other CBHL AA teams for the past several seasons.   The team has the makings of another championship team and the organization has done nothing to promote this team and get them a full season of games.   They claimed that in the past they have polled the team after it has been picked about playing in a supplemental league such as AHF but that was never done this year.   It was determined by just a few that the kids are older now and have jobs and girlfriends don't want to play as much hockey.   Well that may have been the case in the past when the teams haven't been very talented but this years team is just the opposite, a top tier team who will contend for the CBHL championship and state championship in Maryland.   My biggest complaint is that the kids were not even polled, the decision was made by just a few of members of board of directors who have ties to this team and they steered the hockey director to do nothing in regard to polling the team.  Last years 16AA team put Frederick back on the map and the organization has used the successes of the last years 16AA team to try and lure players from outside organizations to come play on one of Frederick AA teams.    News Alert!!!!!!!!!!!! Frederick's AA teams are Upper A at best.   Don't come to Frederick and think that you will be on a competitive AA team because they are going to be near the bottom of the standings in both AHF and CBHL, with the exception of the 18AA team who should be in the top 1/2 of the CBHL standings.  This is the last year of hockey for all but a handful of the 18AA team.   They will head off to college or into the work force never to play competitive hockey at this level again.  Frederick Freeze you should be embarrassed to have done this to this group of kids who help put Frederick back on the map of youth hockey in Maryland by winning the first high level championship in God knows when.     Do better Frederick Freeze!

They have systematically failed the kids by placing that team at the A level in AHF for years. Despite blowing up nearly every team in High A, playing AA in the CBHL, they defended their actions. Some of the excuses included "these kids are new to playing together" and "we didn't know what we had". However, the majority of the kids played together for years and they added top talent from MYHA. The coach should have challenged the players at AA instead of playing games where they didn't develop.

This is the sandbagging team from last year.

An undefeated AA team playing in a A tournament and AHF A.

I don't disagree.   Now they are playing where they should and the organization won't schedule games for them.   They have played 3 NL games and start their CBHL schedule this weekend.   That is only an additional 18 games.   With 3 tournaments they will be lucky to get 35 games before playoff roll around.   If you look back that those teams MHR they are use to playing 65-70 games a year.

I get where you're coming from with the lack of games. However, my experience is that 18U kids have so many things going on. Ie, looking at colleges, homecoming, SATs, AP classes, work, significant others. The teams I've seen pack in tons of games, many times, end the season with a lot of players not participating much anymore. They're on the back 9 of their competitive hockey lives. Let them enjoy the season without being at the rink 6 days a week.

First, why do you care so much?  What's your end goal here because you seem to be all over the place.  They sandbagged last year and now there's an issue that they are in 18AA and they aren't playing enough games for your liking?  They are in 18AA.  They aren't going anywhere but perhaps college clubs.  If you're not in juniors by 15, you're not going anywhere.  You seem to be saying they need to be pushed while also saying they are a fraud as a AA team.  Just get off the kid's jocks already.
