New Coaches for 26-27
Topic: December 16, 2025, 12:20:24 PM
Heard almost all rinks are trying to find non-dad coaches for new season. Complaints at every rink about "daddy ball". If this happens tuition will skyrocket!

Many rinks already have this. My son's rink is one of them at high A/AA. Fees went up $150 per player for the teams that had nonparent coaches. Parent coaches get a $1500 credit toward fees and nonparent coaches get paid around $5000. The nonparent coach gets their hotel covered plus $200 for gas and food for tournaments that require overnight stays. Parents were more than happy to pay the extra to have a nonparent coach. I would have gladly paid double; it was the best coaching he has ever had. At the end of season party, we each chipped in another $50 as a thank you.

Looks like some clubs are dropping their coaches list for 26-27.  This is the time parents start shitting themselves because little Johnny may not end up on the AA team or the top team. Fun times.

Coaches will be put out early by every rink this year. Last year is was late January. Too many unhappy parents at all rinks. Spoke with multiple friends at PHC, JrF, LF, FE, Mercer, Rev, Minutemen and 4 Tier 2 Clubs. Everyone said they are unhappy with the product they are getting. No one complained about game playing time, they complained about quality of practices and how much money they are being charged. Tuition keeps going up but the coaching is getting worse was the most common refrain. More parents this year expressed interest in having their kids try other sports. I think we will see a lot of movement this year, but parents will find the grass is not always greener. I am more worried about what tuition will be next season. BB will raise rates again and every other rink will follow. It will be interesting to see how high BB goes.

Sounds like a AAA issue....

Tier 2 needs parent coaches to keep costs "reasonable".

Yes AAA issue. All rinks are searching for non-parent coaches. Not sure where the coaches will come from, but costs may not go up as much as you think. I know our rink gives a 100% discount to head coaches kid. So that can go to pay the non-parent coach.

Some tier2 high A/AA clubs already have nonparent coaches and their fees are competitive to those that don't. this is nothing new, people just want to act like it is, VFC and LVPY are 2 of those clubs. Parent coaches should only be used for low A and below.

Where are they going to get these coaches? My son's coach was a yr out of college and liked the extra money. Head coach on my son's team, assistant coach on another team and ran private lessons with other coaches once a week. Said he made about 10k for the season. My son plans on doing the same thing after he finishes college.
