WARWICK, PA. - Council Rock North fans were looking forward to celebrating a victory as the varsity hockey team took a 3-1 lead going into the 3rd period. 30 minutes later, they were not celebrating. William Tennent rallied late to beat the Council Rock North Indians 4-3 in a divisional matchup at Revolution Ice Gardens on Wednesday night.

The Indians were without their head coach Chris Gallagher tonight, so assistant coach Epstein assumed the duties. He sent his team out firing and it wasn’t long before they put the puck in the net. Wyatt Pasch smacked one into the net off a shot that hit the boards from Noah Epstein. That was Pasch’s first High School goal. The goal sent the North fans into a frenzy. North held that lead until the fifteen-second mark of the first when Anthony Catallo scored for William Tennent on a shot from a couple of feet to the left of the goal line. He tied it up 1-1 going into the second.

North must have learned from their mistakes, as they absolutely dominated the second period. They retained the lead when Colin Kiefer got a rebound off a shot from Vlad Litvinov as he put it home for his 2nd goal of the season. That was a power-play goal for North, who usually struggle when on the power play. Litvinov added another Power Play goal for North as he received a sweet pass from Wilton Pasch from behind the net. The North side went nuts. North had a 3-1 lead going into the 3rd and final period.

In the third period, North got to around the 10 minute mark with their 3-1 lead until William Tennent struck back. Matthew Castan put pressure on the Indians with a goal on a rebound, to cut the Indians lead to one. The Panthers kept up the pressure and tied it up five minutes later on the first of Thomas Hartenstein’s two goals. The Tennent student-section went bonkers. The final blow from Tennent came with 52 seconds left when on a two on one, Hartenstein gave Tennent its first lead of the game with a blistering wrist shot from the right circle. Rex Goldberg, North’s goalie, was visibly upset with the defense on that play. Despite North’s late game efforts inside the last minute, Tennent survived and completed an amazing comeback in a game that will certainly go down as an instant classic.

Now, onto the goalies. Despite the loss, Rex Goldberg had his best game of the 2019-2020 campaign, stopping 41 of 45 saves. He was definitely the first star despite the loss. Tennent’s goalie Trey Smith was stellar in between the pipes as well, saving 22 of 25 shots. Despite not seeing many shots, it was still an admirable performance from Smith.
