Jr Flyers status?
Topic: April 25, 2018, 12:59:39 PM
Has there been any news on this team if they play? Last heard a number of players left Quakers for the tier ll program but it isn't happening now? Or is it, the Quakers are looking for players, you'd think they'd come back if the Flyers program isn't happening. Quakers are trying to fill teams by bringing in players who aren't making other teams according to their website http://www.quakersicehockey.info/

Not sure if this is true, but the group who is investing in the Quakers has backed out. Can anyone confirm this?

It is true according to facebook. I don't have any other information than what I read in this group https://www.facebook.com/groups/DelawareValleyHockeyLeague/

the group backed out but this doesn't change anything for the quakers they'll be fine. Other interested parties to step up.

This is true but it doesn't change anything. The Quakers program will move forward and the rink will be completed. It's just a minor bump in the road toward their new beginning. The Jr Flyers program is highway robbery, you'd have to be stupid to want anything to do with that club, it's owners or the garbage heap they call home.

The Jr Flyers tier 2 program is now called Team Philadelphia (they were not permitted to use the Jr Flyers team).  They have multiple teams across age divisions, largely coming from Quakers families who either wanted to stay at Ice Line or did not think the Quakers would be able to build their rink in time for the season.  Many of the coaches are also coming from the Quakers.  Team philadelphia essential stole a program, was subsequently denied membership in DVHL, so they will be playing EJEPL, plus whatever games they can schedule against other local teams (including DVHL teams), plus tournaments and showcases.  The irony is that because they are not part of DVHL, they were not subject to any limits on how many players they could take from the Quakers.

The Quakers will have to rebuild their program, as they lost a lot of players, and will play fewer team than they (and their original investor) had hoped - I’m sure there numbers will increase next year once the rink is operational.  We’ll have to see how long the teams in the DVHL make Team Philadelphia wait before they let them join.

Both programs will move forward and everyone involved in all the drama should move on.

Lots of "Ifs" here, but if the Quakers have a stable season with their new rink and if the JRF don't get into the DVHL next season, I can see a lot of the younger kids jumping ship. The EJ is not a league for Squirt and PW A/B teams. Not enough teams at those levels and too much travel.

This all depends on what can be considered "stable". The Quakers went from 23 DVHL boys teams and 7 girls teams last year to what appears to be 10 DVHL boys and 1 girls team this season. They barely have anything left. Not to mention almost all of their coaches went to Jr. Flyers tier ll.

While the the Jr Flyers tier ll team went from no teams last season to 21 non-DVHL teams and 8 girls teams.
