COACHING IN MONMOUTH AREA
Topic: March 27, 2019, 08:20:14 AM
Moving to the area and need a feel for hockey in your area. Looking for solid coaching (aren’t we all) for 1st year Midget, 2nd year squirt, preferably no dad coaches and where kids are placed according to ability and not some other “criteria” that only the parent and coach/director seem to be aware of.

There are a lot of clubs in that regional area. What city are you in the county? Are you limiting your selection by locality or coaches? Are your kids tier 1 players because if they are tier ll you're kind of at the mercy of whichever club you choose. Most tier ll clubs have parent coaches at A/B level. Lastly ask around, you younger kids tryouts are happening right now. The older one still has about 2 weeks. In Jersey you can tryout wherever you like with no immediate obligation. You do have to pay the tryout fee though.

We are looking in the Eatontown, Tinton Falls, Morganville, and Freehold. My husband signed my younger guy up for tryouts so they have been driving up there this week. We’re going in blind so I’m trying to get a feel for the different rinks and the coaches, kids and parents. I don’t mind having my boys in different rinks either.

Titans are the only true Tier 1 in the area and they are in Middletown which is probably 20 minutes from where you are looking. Another nearby club touts Tier 1 but its teams play a more of a AA schedule. They don’t get killed but don’t kill the competition either. When playing against true AAA they tend to lose. Depends on what you are looking for but don’t count on any giving development because they won’t.
