Late game heroics from North Penn's Holt stave off a crazy come back bid from Pennridge.

Quinn Holt scores game-winner in 3rd period

HATFIELD, PA. - That's what happened last night. This is not an ordinary situation and for once unrelated to covid. Due to a "snow-out" the game was rescheduled to be played tonight, which is normally reserved for practice.

Pennridge, surely eager to get back at it after Friday night's loss to North Penn, would be prepared to levy reparations in the second of back-to-back meetings. The Rams wouldn't waste any time getting on the board. Almost immediately following the opening draw, the Rams scored twelve seconds into the game off of a routine dump-in play which found its way in front of Knights goalie, Jon Boyles. Boyles lost sight of the puck as Aeryk Lerhaupt would pounce on the unattended disc and deposit into the empty net. The Knights bounced back just over a minute and a half later as Ryan Cunningham accepted a pass from defensive partner Tyler Porubski, Cunningham would skate the puck across the Ram blue line unloading a seed through a screen that looked to fool the Rams goalie and ended up popping the twine. Three minutes later the Knight's, continuing to apply pressure in the Pennridge offensive zone got a greasy goal from senior Zack Cline who found a rebound in a battle in front and wasted no time chipping the puck past the prone Pico. The Knights, again on the rush would go up 3-1 a few minutes later off of a high slot wrist shot from Sophomore forward, Nolan O'Toole. O'Toole carried the puck across the Ram blue line before a quick pivot and zipping the shot into the back of the net. The Knights would go on to carry the 3-1 lead into the second period.

The second period started slightly more conservative with both teams tightening up the defense in the neutral zone. With 4 minutes left in the second Ryan Cunningham would pick up a pass just over the blue line in the Ram zone and throw what looked like a routine shot on the goalie, Pico. It looked like Pico either misjudged the shot or just wasn't ready as it sailed by the unscreened goalie. The goal would put the Knights up 4-1 but a minute later Rams forward, Richie Shanks found himself alone on the right wing wide open. Shanks fired the puck past Boyles to split the score 4-2.

Heading into the 3rd it looked like the Knights had sealed the deal, keeping their foot on the gas and continuing to fire pucks at the Pennridge goal. Pennridge would be guilty of a tripping penalty to start the period but that wouldn't beset the talented Ram's squad. The Rams would score short-handed on a lazy toss, lofted into the Knights zone. Andrew David would skate in alone as the Knights defense stopped skating and appeared to think Boyles would pick up the puck and clear or freeze. That didn't happen he left the puck at the side of the net for David to pick up and slam behind the visibly shaken goalie. David wasn't done yet, 2 minutes later he would pick up a rebound and find himself in front of an empty net which he easily threw in unimpeded tying the game at 4-4. What was shaping up to be a disastrous meltdown for North Penn was eradicated 2 minutes later when the hero from Friday night's 3-0 win would deliver yet again. Nolan O'Toole fired another shot from virtually the same spot in the slot which he scored from earlier in the game. This one careened off of the far post right onto the tape of Quinn Holt's blade. Holt stabbed at the puck, scoring to break the deadlock putting the Knights ahead 5-4 with less than 5 minutes to play. The Knights took a bad too many men penalty a minute later, however they would kill it off without issue. Pennridge called a timeout to discuss strategy and immediately pulled their goalie on the ensuing faceoff for the extra attacker. The Knights were able to control the puck for the last 80 seconds and would complete the sweep with the 5-4 victory.
