Youth hockey officials to discuss fallout from racial harassment against Amherst hockey player

A meeting is scheduled for Saturday to discuss the fallout from the video of racial harassment against an Amherst hockey player. The playoffs that were suddenly canceled.

The cancellation came the same day that the video was released to the public showing a couple of Cheektowaga players making monkey sounds and even calling a black player on the Amherst team a monkey.

Western New York Amateur Hockey League Officials knew about the incident since it happened in January, but took no action until the video was released to the public.

Eventually, two Cheektowaga players and an assistant coach were suspended. In the hours that followed the league canceled the playoffs.

Dr. Darren Brown-Hall, the father of the player who was harassed didn't want the playoffs to be canceled.

Now, he and coaches of each team have been invited to a meeting tomorrow morning with the president of the New York State Amateur Hockey Association.

They plan too not only discuss the way it was all handled but also the possibility of rescheduling the youth hockey playoffs for the Amherst, Cheektowaga and West Seneca teams.

Sources say there's no reason why the playoffs could not be re-scheduled very soon if the New York State Hockey Association agrees to it.
