INDIANS OUTPLAYED BY CB WEST

The Council Rock North Indians lost a rough one Thursday night to CB West, 11-0, at Hatfield. The outcome was an all too familiar site for Indians fans, who have seen their team mercy ruled in 3 out of their first 4 games.

This game was a prime example of what CR North Coach Gallagher calls a “learning experience”.  Of North’s 13 rostered players, 8 of them are Freshmen.  And as hard as it is to be a freshman in high school, it's even harder to be a freshman in high school hockey.

The game was controlled by CB West all night long. They essentially towered over half of North’s team. North was able to hang in there with them through the first period, avoiding a first period blowout by allowing only 4 goals, two from CB West’s Christopher Trefz.  It looked like North was putting itself in a great position to play a full 3 periods, but that didn’t turn out to be the case.

North’s troubles began in the second period when CB West Jake Lang scored the first of his 4 goals by beating North goalie Rex Goldberg top shelf.  CB West’s Jack Boland, Keith Orlando, and Ben Morris also got into the 2nd period scoring as well. By the end of the second period, CB West had put the game away, draining all of the energy out of the North crowd. This is not the first time the Indians have had a second period meltdown. They have been outscored 17-2 in the second period in their first four games overall.

After the game, North Coach Gallagher explained the miscues by saying “it's difficult since you have the long change, so when you’re short-handed, it becomes a lot more evident in the second period. Its harder to get your wind, you have longer changes, longer shifts, sometimes not by choice. We try to make them cognizant of that, we try to make quicker shifts, but a lot of times when you get pinned in your own end, it’s hard to make them change.”

North Coach Gallagher also added, “West has a very strong forecheck, had pucks deep,  and get pucks on net, they had a great cycle going with the give and go’s. That's the stuff we work on in practice, and now they can see that executed at a high level in a game.”

Another CB West Star tonight was Goalie Jake Coddington, who stopped all 11 shots he faced to earn his first shutout of the 2010-2020 SHSHL campaign. Rex Goldberg stopped 24 shots for North. Overall, good goalie play tonight from both teams.
