AAHA Oct 23 Memo
Topic: October 24, 2020, 07:15:18 AM
So our friends at AAHA issued a memo that states all players should show up at the rink needing only to put on skates, helmets and gloves.   So, just how do GOALIES do that.......How does the organization that is supposed to oversee hockey know nothing about GOALIES.  You know the phrase...the problem with stupid people is they BREED.

As with a lot these days I believe this was issued with good intentions but minimal thought.

They should have mandated social distancing must be maintained at all times. Let the rinks work out the details (bigger.ones using party rooms, smaller ones temporary setups outside).

As for parents the should have mandated minimal distance from the players at all times.  They overstepped thier bounds and implemented something that does not offer extra protection.

Also, does our USA hockey insurance cover liability of the Atlantic District forcing my 18yo goalie to drive to the rink dressed? I wonder which of their lawyers were responsible for covering that part? They clearly mandated it so it is on them.

So how does a fully dressed goalie, except helmet gloves fit in a car?

Glenn Hefferan is a moron.  Lets stop two parents, that in all likely hood live together anyway, from sitting next to each other to watch their kid play hockey.  That will help with Covid!  Seriously, the guy has the IQ of a head of cauliflower.

Here's what Safe Sport says:

"Have a minimum attire policy if sharing one locker room. All players should be required to arrive at the rink wearing their hockey base layers or shorts and t-shirts (in good condition - no holes or tears in clothing) under their street clothes. All members of the team must have this minimum attire before entering a co-ed locker room so that no player of one gender has the opportunity to see players
of the opposite gender in a state of dress/undress."

This is simple, wear a base layer. Jayzus Christmas, the way parents are fretting over people seeing kids undressed you'd think they've never been to a public pool or beach or that they wear Victorian swimwear.

Locker rooms are a whole section of Safe Sport mostly because they are venues for adults to corner kids privately and because of locker boxing and other physical abuse, harassment and bullying between players. Players are much safer out of the locker room. You know who statistically is most likely to sexually abuse a kid? Someone a kid knows, like a coach, teacher, priest, scout leader or family relative or friend, almost always male. Sexual predators often seek out jobs with kids for easy routes of contact with kids over time.

If parents are worried about sexual predators, what's more likely, some guy choosing a parking lot full of hockey dad and moms to stake out or the person who your kid trusts abusing that trust? Penn State football and Boy Scouts of America scandals, maybe people have heard of them?

And if people were truly worried about sexual predators peeping at their kids, they wouldn't let their children run around half naked in hotel swimming pools as happens at every single tournament.

If it's weather people are worried about, OK. I guess hockey players aren't as tough as parents say they are. Read about some of the outdoor conditions kids skate in northern countries or standing in line in below zero snowstorms for entire days to get a chance at even trying out for elite Russian teams, but it's a hardship for our kids to get dressed in the backseat of mommy's Camry with the heat cranked up.  OK.
