This is actually a very interesting topic to discuss, but we need to separate the loss of jobs from paying hard earned dollars for our children.  We all agree the product is diluted and as paying customers we deserve better than what is put in front of us.

As we begin to open up, have they all survived?

It’s the paying customer that is messing everything up! Why pay for tier 1 if your kid doesn’t belong there? That’s what messing it up. AA has A kid because AAA has AA kids and so on. Not the rink or clubs. PARENTS

So these parents decide on their own that their kid made the AAA team? There wasn't a tryout process that the AAA team charged people to attend that they then selected players from to collect money from? Interesting.

Why would these phony AAA teams exist then? Money?? Because they know they can hoodwink someone into paying rather than shut down the team for lack of qualified players?

Yup. Totally the parents fault.

This area has about 5 million people and plenty of hockey clubs. Why aren't we developing better players?

Just do the math:
With 15 players and 1 goalie-
Tier1 team annual fee (average): $72,000.00
Tier2 team annual fee (average): $31,000.00
(Juniors, with 22 players on team paying nearly $10k per player. + goalie: $225,000.00/year)

Will rinks survive?= Yes
Why do AA players end up on AAA?= Money

As long as parents are suckers, the rinks will keep taking their money. And as long as parents keep seeing their kids as future NHL'ers, they'll remain suckers. They'll keep shelling out $200+ for a plastic hockey stick, hundreds of dollars for special clinics, $500 for skates, etc. It's actually funny to watch.

We aren't developing better players because teams are focused on playing games and tournaments,  not developing skating and other hockey skills. The golden window for development closes at about 14yo for boys.  They should be spending 75-80% of time before then practicing, getting on ice every day, and play a shorter season with fewer games.  13-14, we add checking for a group of players who in our area are not stellar skaters,  so immediately increase injuries. That's why mid-Atlantic top tier will still always be rec players compared to Minnesota,  Canada and counties like Sweden.  But hey, so many tournament aka participation trophies,  amiright? :-\

Pennsylvania had 8 counties move to green status and many more are expected to go green June 26th.  The Dvhl would be clear to have their season as we as high schools.  I really don’t understand what’s going on in Nj.

Personally, as an OG, I am here to tell you that I improved the most as an athlete and as a hockey player from 18-22.
everyone is different.

but everyone latches on to the early physical and skill developing kids fully devoid of any feeling of hypocrisy ("its a marathon?").

USA hockey is a scam folks... 'its the science' sure it is keep peddling that. pay your dues.

If you want your player to develop tangible skips, have them train with a local skills coach. These guys know what they're talking about and actually care about your child's development along with the product they are delivering.
