Music or silence between stops

Author Topic: POLL: High School Hockey Music During Stops and Between Periods  (Read 5628 times)

Description:

Most of our kids have played for years, during which many of us have run the clock and kept score. Playing music during stops has become common practice in club hockey games, but not so much during High School games. The kids normally play their favorite playlists in the locker rooms when they're getting dressed and expect the same on the ice. Granted some rinks sound systems can be louder than others but that is easily controlled on the device itself or from the system it's being played. Do your players prefer music playing or silence between stops?

the music sets the atmosphere and being able to hear the coaches whispering to the players is weird.

Honestly, for DVHL games, the music gets old after like the 3rd stoppage in the first period, especially for games before noon. Nothing is worse than someone blasting music at 8am for squirt game with 20 people in the stands. I've run the clock for years for my son's team and I've never once played music. Every so often I've had another parent in there with me who will play something. What they don't get is that the music they are playing is not what the kids want to hear. I had a parent play "From Whom the Bells Toll" during warms ups. It is actually a great song for warm ups because it 5 minutes long and has this slow build up. After the game the kid told his dad never to play that again, rest of the team had no idea what it was and hated it.

Now for HS schools, I don't mind it as much. Games are usually at night and have a lot more people attending so it is more of a party atmosphere. And for the most part the person running the clock is a high school aged so they know what the players will want to hear. I just don't need it after every single stoppage.

I am playing music this year for u16 travel and except for Halloween the kids said they like my picks. I mix it between what the players want (as long as I can find a clean version) and what parents want to hear.

We have had kids on both teams dancing on the ice.

the scholastic league plays music for the kids and they don't seem as into it.  8)

What kind of adaptor do you use between an iPhone/iPad when connecting to a rinks audio system?  I’m a newby to the scorekeepers box and parents are always asking me to play music and I have no idea how to connect to the system.
