Colmar, PA - It's that time of year to look back and look ahead simultaneously and think what could have been or what might still be. The Class AA stretch run is an uncertain time for teams teetering on the verge of postseason elimination. While others who are mathematically eliminated will look to close out what remains of their schedules and wrap things up, there are several teams who may or may not have what it takes to dig deep and make a big final run splash. This is the time when anything can happen, and stars are born. The biggest question remains, who will want it more?
For the SHSHL Class AA "National Division", the top two seeds will be awarded byes into the semifinals while the third seed will face the sixth seed and the fourth and fifth seeds will matchup in the opening quarterfinal round to determine their semifinal matchups. As it stands, currently Pennsbury, (12 points) sits alone in first place with two "season" games remaining. Council Rock South, (11 points) is in second place with four games remaining, Pennridge, (10 points) is in third place, and Neshaminy (9 points) is in fourth place, both also have four games remaining and two games in hand on the first place Falcons. Unlike the past few seasons there is no definite first, second, or even third place winner, and final seedings could very easily go down to the wire.
Here's where it gets interesting. Central Bucks South, (8 points) has three games remaining, and Council Rock Indians, (8 points) has two games remaining and are tied for fifth place but the Titans have a game in hand on the Indians, and there's no guarantee either or will come in fifth or sixth or even be eligible at all. CB East, and CB West will practically have to win out and need losses from both CB South and the North Indians, while the Souderton Indians will rest thier hopes on winning out and the stars aligning in order for them to make the jump from their current place in the standings to pick up at best the sixth and final post season placement. Bensalem and North Penn are mathematically eliminated as neither have enough games to make up ground in the standings, the best they can do is play spoilers in order to help the division leaders jockey for positioning to qualify as the league's best record holder at completion of the season.
Good luck to all playing especially the seniors on their final run playing for their school teams.
