The 1996-1997 Friars roster resembled that of their powerhouse 80's and early 90's past featuring high scoring forward lines, shut down defense and strong goaltending. This would be a season built for making a legitimate run at the Flyers Cup Title. After storming through the ICSHL regular season with a 15-0-1 record, Malvern cruised into the Flyers Cup Tournament prepared to battle. After quick work in the semi's the powerful Malvern squad met up against SHSHL rival Council Rock in the Flyers Cup Championship. Losing the first game of the best of 3 series to Rock, they would go on to take game two, doubling the score with a 4-2 win and then onto the finals they beat the Indians handily to take the championship with a 5-2 win.
