The Council Rock North Indians ideally would have liked to start off the season with a bang. But, they were on the wrong side of a blowout tonight as they fell 11-1 to Plymouth Whitemarsh in an early season battle at Grundy Ice Arena. The Indians dug themselves a deep hole early in this one, allowing two goals in a span of two and a half minutes. Benjamin Lubas put Plymouth on the board with a rocket to the left side which was followed quickly with a goal by Aidan Keogh. This was after a North turnover in their own end. But, the Indians didn’t waver and they were able to put one home on the power play. While everyone thought that Plymouth’s goalie, Kolton Galie, had covered up the puck, Clare Schaffer was waiting to pounce on the loose puck and she put it in, trimming the lead to two. But, that’s the closest North would get. After being up 3-1 after the first, Plymouth exploded for 8 unanswered goals between the start of the second period and the 2:59 mark in the third period. The game was called for a mercy rule.
There were some positives to look at for the Indians. Being short on defensemen coming into the season, guys like Wilton Pasch for instance have stepped up to move back. He did a great job along with his defensive teammates tonight. There are a lot of newcomers to the team, like Noah Epstein, who made a positive impact by getting an assist on the goal by Schaffer. Zach Weissman, another newcomer, was able to grab the secondary assist on the Indians only goal. Additionally, Chris Hahn had an excellent game and he was able to generate a lot of scoring opportunities. But, there were few other opportunities generated. The stifling defense by Plymouth Whitemarsh limited North to just 11 shots, while they picked up 46 shots of their own. The goaltending tonight from Rex Goldberg was stellar. He had the save of the night, and possibly an early save of the year candidate when he stopped a shot on the 2 on 1 by desperately sticking out his right pad to make the save.
Goalie Rex Goldberg makes an amazing leg save.Grundy Ice Arena erupted after the play, expressing their gratitude for that big save. Ultimately the Indians were able to take away some positives from this loss.
NEXT GAME:The Indians will be back at Grundy Ice Arena on Thursday, November 7th, for a showdown with Neshaminy. It will be a 9:00 start time. --------------------
