Jerry DiStefano will return to the Philadelphia Little Flyers organization this year to be the Head Coach of the 2007 PeeWee Major team.  Jerry grew up in Philadelphia, PA, and played for the Little Flyers AAA for most of his youth hockey career.  He also played for the Washington Little Capitals AAA and the Philadelphia Junior Flyers AAA.  Jerry played his high school hockey at Monsignor Bonner where he was a four-time Varsity All-Star and Captain of the school's only 2 Flyers Cup AAA Championship teams.  He received the Bobby Clarke Award as MVP of both championship tournaments and was selected to the Bauer All-Tournament Teams.  During his Senior year of high school, Jerry was selected for and participated in USA Hockey's Select 17 Camp in Lake Placid, NY, and was named the State of PA's Player of the Year.  He then attended and played at Merrimack College (NCAA Division I - Hockey East) until his hockey career was ended by injury early in his Freshman year.  Jerry has coached youth hockey for Archbishop Carroll High School, the Delco Dragons, and Delco Phantoms.  Jerry also coaches youth baseball and youth soccer in DE.

Is this another situation where the coach already has his team picked and their just trying to get more players to pay the tryout fee to make a bigger profit?

This is a actually not one of those situations. The Little Flyers '07 team was a brand new team to tier 1 hockey this past season. We took our lumps just like you would expect, especially considering we had only 5-6 true tier 1 level players. The coach did a great job with what he had, and every player got a lot better. More recruiting was done for this season, and better talent is expected. However, every spot is up for grabs and nothing is guarenteed. We are looking for forwards and defenseman. If you're ready to make the jump, you can trust that you will receive a fair evaluation and tryout. Hope to see you at tryouts!
