The 1989-1990 Friars team picked up where it left off after their prior campaign the year before. The core of the team was back and mostly still in tact after losing some key players from the 88-89 season. A season where they fell just short with a loss to William Tennent in Flyers Cup Semi-finals. The Friars unleashed a barrage, unloading a resounding 70 shots on goalie Scott Shaw but would ultimately wind up on the losing end. The following year the Friars would seek retribution and they would do so in convincing fashion. They took down the Panthers with a blow out 11-2 Flyers Cup Championship win, catapulting them into the Pennsylvania State High School Ice Hockey Championship. Malvern met up with the cross state Penguins Cup Champions Upper St. Clair and would not disappoint. The final score ended 6-3 Friars and would give them their schools first ever state title win, and it wasn't just for ice hockey, this would be a historic first state title in any sport.
