POLL: Royals and Genesis Hockey Club Debate
Topic: February 03, 2020, 09:44:34 AM

It's been less than one year and we've seen 4 established hockey clubs within 10 miles of each other combine to become 2 separate very large independent DVHL clubs.

In 2019 the Warwick Wildcats and the Hatfield Ice Dogs announced both clubs would combine to become the re-branded Genesis Hockey Club. They would go on to feature 20 teams from mite to 18U in the 2019-2020 DVHL season.

More recently in 2020, It was announced Black Bear Sports Group, (current owner of Revolution Ice Gardens) purchased Wintersport Royals LLC, (Royals and rink). Plans include moving out of Wintersport and to combine both the Revolution Youth, (9 teams) and Royals, (21 teams) eliminating the Revolution Youth [brand] altogether to remain the Royals exclusively. The club will play in the DVHL out of RIG Twin Rinks and BCI, offering 3 total sheets similar to the Genesis program.

Now that we know there are 2 very large tier ll programs, one situated in Montgomery County and one in Bucks. Does the new combined DVHL option appeal with respect to the following:
  • Geographic location - Many families turned their heads at Rev because they were not participating members in the DVHL. In turn, they chose to drive farther to remain playing in the DVHL. With the Royals being full members, does that change your interest?
  • Pricing - Will Royal's price index remain consistent with their lower than normal tuition across the board?
  • Coaching - Although many of the existing coaches may remain, there will be new faces. Is coaching the only reason you stay or go?
  • Players - Will you base your decision on players involved only?
  • Tier 1 - Does the fact that RIG offers an additional tier 1 option playing out of the same building play any part in your decision?

We fully expect to see comments made and poll choices selected based on allegiance to specific clubs. Please keep an open mind, put things into perspective and offer realistic responses.

Counted as interested, we are with another club in the area much further though. Will there be AA at 14U as I don't recall seeing AA teams for Royals.

We will take a look whenever next seasons brochure comes out. Where should we look for this information?

We are with Royals now and will certainly stay with the move to Revolution.  Better location for us, and we've had a very good experience with the coaches and other families.  No idea if the pricing will change dramatically, but it was fine this year.

Currently with Genesis, it has been a great year and experience all around.  However, we would leave based on the possibility of getting 1 coach.  Need to wait and hear when coaches are announced.

Show me a true 12AA - all 2008 team - with a coach that does not have a kid on the team and I will  write the check!

You would leave after having a good season for the possibility of getting a coach you like?

We are currently a Royals family and will be leaving.

I don’t have to “like” the coach to be happy with the coach and what they bring to the table.  A team’s success is not always a reflection of the coaches ability, sometimes a coach lucks into a talented roster and/or even subpar competition.
