Currently the governor has made a recommendation, not a mandate. Our family votes to move forward with the season, but to do so in a smart manner.
So far we’ve been at two rinks, each with their own protocols. Each with acceptable protocols. Where I have concern is with people choosing to not follow them. Parents sneaking back in the rink to watch their player; players, coaches, or parents not wearing masks/barely wearing masks; or, for the rinks that allow an adult to tie skates, parents not exiting promptly, but hanging out.
We want hockey, but not doing so safely, and not respecting rinks and organizations that have safe mandates will ultimately end the season. My husband coaches two teams and I manage them. Coaches managing the players comes with the territory, but the shady way that some families are complying will eventually snowball. Please don’t make us not want to volunteer our precious time, by thwarting safety guidelines.
In conclusion, continue with hockey, but do so in a manner that maintains the health and safety of the players, coaches, and their extended families. Follow safety protocols so that hockey can continue.
