Black Bear Sports Group to Buy 3 Flyers SkateZones
Topic: September 14, 2020, 02:05:26 PM
Comcast Spectacor said Monday it has reached an agreement to sell three of its Flyers Skate Zone ice rinks to Black Bear Sports Group Inc.

Former Philadelphia Flyers captain Keith Primeau, who is credited with initiating the talks with Comcast Spectacor, will be a minority owner in the acquisition and lead the "strategic vision" of the three facilities being acquired.

Financial terms of the deal — which consists of the sale of Skate Zone facilities in Northeast Philadelphia and Pennsauken and Atlantic City, New Jersey — are being kept confidential.

The transfer of ownership for the three facilities is expected to go into effect within 30 days of the agreement securing the necessary approvals.

Comcast Spectacor, a division of Comcast Corp., will continue to own and operate the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone at Voorhees, the training facility for the Philadelphia Flyers. Comcast Spectacor owns the Flyers and the Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia.

Bethesda, Maryland-based Black Bear Sports Group is a national community ice rink operator that owns and manage 19 rinks nationally. The organization also owns co-owns and manages the Youngstown Phantoms of the United States Hockey League. It also owns Maryland Black Bears of the North American Hockey League and Team Maryland of the Eastern Hockey League.

Primeau is currently president of hockey operations for the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL

“I have seen up close the rich tradition of youth hockey in this region and have experienced it from every angle including coaching, parenting and operations,” Primeau said. “Our goal is to foster local talent and provide them the facilities and programming to pursue their hockey dreams, whatever that level may be. "

The deal includes a marketing agreement that will allow both the Flyers and Black Bear to promote teams and services to each other’s respective fans and customers.
