The Knights and Titan's first meeting of the season is normally reserved for Thanksgiving Eve, and is dubbed "The County Line Cup". Not this season though, that will have to wait until next. The importance of the game however remained the same.
HATFIELD, PA. - Both teams came into tonight's matchup looking for points, traditionally the Knights haven't faired very well against the Titans in league or postseason play. Not having beaten the Titans in over 6 years, the Knights would look to change those results.
The game got started with the Knights moving the puck well testing the Titan defense and peppering goalie, Mason Moyer with a flurry of shots. Once settled in the Titans returned the favor with their own bursts of offense which would ultimately result in the game's first goals. CB South opened the scoring with Freshman forward, DJ Lindenmuth picking up a rebound off of a right-side circle draw just inside of 9 mins for his first of the season. One minute later South's Jonah Smith would strike again, while unprotected off of the short side post. Smith would pick up a rebound and bury it behind Knights goalie Jon Boyles. The first period would end 2-0 in favor of the Titans. The shot clock wasn't running.
The Knights would start the second period with a battle for the puck in front of the Titans goalie. Senior forward Zack Cline would pick up the rebound off of a Chase Mueller shot to put the knights on the board. Leading 2-1, the Titans would come back and add another to widen the margin 3-1. Again, sophomore forward Jonah Smith would score his second goal of the game corraling a rebound inside the circles putting it past the Knights goalie. The Knights would strike again at the end of the period off a top-shelf beauty from Ryan Kaufhold. Kaufhold snuck in behind the Titan defense off of the right side and backhanded the puck past a prone Moyer who appeared not to see the puck until it was past him. One goal down, the Knights would head into the third trailing 3-2. The shot clock still wasn't running.
The third period was for the most part all Knights. Having several open net opportunities, Knights forwards continued their assault on the glass launching shots high and wide, squandering many chances being handed to them by the Titan defense. For the past several games the Knights have missed out on scoring opportunities time and again wasting them shooting the puck over the net. Ryan Cunningham would even the score with under 7 minutes to go. The senior defenseman found himself in a unique position as he maneuvered the puck out of his defensive zone. It was like the seas parting as Cunningham pushed forward into the neutral zone. Skating into the CB South end unscathed, Cunningham launched a rocket from the slot one on one against goalie Mason Moyer. The short side wrister appeared to fool Moyer and evened the score at 3-3. The third period would end tied up and forced a 3 on 3 overtime. Overtime didn't see much action as both teams traded a couple of shots each. As time ran out, the game would end deadlocked 3-3.
