Black Bear acquired both Skylands and Aspen and merged the Kings and Freeze together. Soon, most New Jersey ice rinks will be owned by Black Bear.

Aspen was purchased by Black Bear. The Freeze could not or would not, depending who you ask, come to an agreement with Black Bear so the franchise was shuttered, with Black Bear creating a second Kings organization out of Aspen, independent of the Skylands Kings. Most Freeze coaches and players moved to this new Kings team.
