Protec Ponds for sale?
Topic: December 26, 2021, 09:36:34 PM
Is this another Big Bear takeover?  Sorry if late to the party on this, just heard that Protec is looking to be sold at $8m?  Seems like a big price tag, any insight?

Eight mil seems like an awful lot. Is there any rink anywhere worth more than two mil that isn't brand new? They sell because they can't afford to fix anything.

It is sold and will cease operations as an ice rink in March.

location, club stability always an issue, will strengthen rockets and woodbridge, tough times for youth ice rinks

This is off their facebook page. Our JR. Ducks EHL team will be finishing up their season at Flemington Arena. For the 2022-2023 season, the team will be playing out of Mennen Sports Arena. Our Youth Travel Hockey Program will be joining the Hunterdon Bears at Flemington Arena. Additionally, we will be hosting our Spring Predators program out of this facility along with our JR. Ducks Spring Tournament teams. It's sad to see a rink close, years ago our one local rink closed and became a diesel garage and sales shop. Could you imagine the outrage if BB would have bought ProTec and kept it a rink.

consolidation is a good thing, too many rinks / teams, too many players at incorrect levels (AAA==>AA==>A==>B), product has become watered down, why do we look at this as bad?  same thing happened in late 70's/early 80's when the sport needed a reset (totawa, bergen mall, pasack valley, livingstone, eatontown all closed)

the bear is just putting band aid on knife wound and selling parents the dream

We posted nearly the same thing at almost the same time in different threads. I'm with you I think this is a great opportunity for Hunterdon and the Ducks associations to regroup and move forward as one solid program with an excellent pool of talent to grow from. Losing a rink or rinks IF they fail or the owners choose to leave the industry isn't a loss for youth hockey it's a net gain. It puts back neighbor hockey programs where they belong in one place not a stones throw from each other competing for the same kids to play.
