District playoffs
Topic: August 12, 2023, 06:43:47 PM
I noticed the district playoffs were much better structured this season.  I only checked one age group, but I presume it’s similar across the board.

Instead of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams from the Dvhl or Njyhl that they did last year, they are taking only the top 2 and leaving 4 spots open for independents (read AHF) in A and AA brackets.  Last season after you put in the top AHF teams, you had to skip over 5 or 6 better ranked AHF teams to even get to the first Dvhl team.

Does this include getting rid of districts for 18A. This decision is a kick in the pants to all those players/parents and coaches. My son is in his senior yr and they took this away from him and all the others. For the 1st time his team looked like a legit team to make it with the mix of 16AA that moved up and the returning 18A kids. The reasoning is because at districts things get out of hand with kids graduating, if that is the case do away with the Flyers Cup too.

Not only the Flyers Cup but also the High School National Championship. The AAHA has multiple scholastic leagues under them. I'm sure seniors play on all those teams. I recall a few yrs back one team betting the crap out of the underdogs in the Flyers Cup at the end of a game. Players were sent to the hospital and charges were filled, but yet the tournament still goes on.

If a senior moves onto college and plays club hockey or higher would they not still fall under USA Hockey and couldn't the suspension carry over to that? Set fines instead of suspensions, but don't take it out on all because of a few.

The DVHL, NJYHL and AHF need to stand together on this for the players. If the AAHA will not budge then the 3 leagues need to get together and make their own tournament for the players. Take the top DE team in each league, top NJ team in each league & top 2 PA teams in each league and have an end of season tournament.

From what I'm reading on the different message boards, not in recent history at districts.

I thought someone was making something up, but this is copied right off the AAHA site. LOOK AT THE BOTTOM. Soo sad and sorry to all those affected by this poor decision.

Everyone needs to email/call the AAHA officers and be heard. Their site has all their names and email. This may not matter to you this year but what about next year or after. Email USA Hockey as well, let them all feel the heat. Lets start here! LETS BE HEARD!!

According to the AHF website schedule the 18A showcase is this weekend and another 18A showcase is the last weekend of Sept.. If anyone here will be there spread the word, make signs, post on bulletin boards if permitted. They may not change it for this year but help out the ones that will be 18A in the future. Tell them to contact their club reps, league reps, AAHA officers and USA Hockey. All the contact info you need is on their sites. We has a hockey family need to stand together, no matter what age or level or even district/league you play.

A message from Glenn Hefferan - President of the AAHA
I reached out to my 33 counterparts throughout the country, and many of them have also eliminated 18U Districts except for the National-Bound levels, as that is required by USA Hockey.

So what he is saying is if many of his counterparts stuck the butt end of a players stick up his rectum he would too.
