Team going to CanAm this season. First time. Heard mixed reviews. Anyone have any advice or reviews? Is competition even? Food? Hotels?

Been 1x. AA team.  Hockey not great. Better at league level. Team won tourney by 3+ goals every game. Food terrible. Hotel ok. Plan on spending 3x what normal tourney costs. Overpriced shopping and food. Food included but so bad ate out 2 meals a day. Coupon restaurants sucked! Costs were outrageous. My entire team agreed if had do over, go  different tourney.

Went twice. Once at AA and once at A. AA competition was tough because a few AAA teams entered and we struggled. A level was better and team got to finals. Hotels at AA were bad, but we learned and tried to register early next time. Hotel at A was better. Food is bad at both hotels. We ate out for all lunches and dinners both years. This upped the costs significantly. Overall I would say our experience was mixed. Was it worth it? To see my kids play on Miracle Rink, yes. Did my kids feel the same way? No. They just wanted to hang with their team in the hotel and play hockey. After we came back, none of the kids talked about the game in Miracle Rink. They talked about their knee hockey games in hotel. Could have done that anywhere at 1/3 the cost! I would say the experience was more for the parents than kids. Oh, one more thing. We had to fund raise which was a pain in the ass. Having to hit up friends and family to pay for your kids sports trip was embarrassing. I still get shit from my siblings and friends. Especially since my one son no longer plays hockey. Money helped, but was wiped out two times over from food costs.  Good luck!

Not happy about going, but already paid deposit. Pretty much what I was already told. Food sucks, hotel hit or miss, hockey could go either way and cos 2x-3x higher than promised. Thanks for reviews.

Can am does a good job at all the tournaments we have been to. Lake placid and Montreal both once, competition can be lopsided and the food in Montreal wasn’t great, lake placid was better. But overall they do it better than CHE from what I’ve heard. Anyone who is a hockey fan should be able to appreciate the impact lake placid had on USA hockey. Albeit there isn’t an Applebees like most teams have on tournament weekends. Let you kid enjoy it.

I've been to Placid for tournaments many times over the years. It's a great experience. Yes, you pay more. As with all tournaments the competition level can vary a lot. My entire family has loved the experience. There are great places to eat there.

CanAM in Lake Placid was probably the most memorable tournaments we went to. From the opening ceremony to the final game, it was well run and they did a great job at making the divisions fair. Yes, it cost more but unless it changed only had to buy lunch 1 time. Breakfast at the hotel every day, a lunch pizza party at hotel (included w/ tournament, even included a GF pizza for kid with celiac disease) a decent dinner buffet every day, and a dj party. We stayed at the Courtyard and it was a nice hotel.

Thanks. Opinions seem mixed but more good than bad. Hope our experience is good. Biggest issue for my family is cost. Hockey already expensive and paying double cost of normal tournament is stretching budget. Plus since we have to be there by Thursday another vacation day down the tube. Only son and I can go because of price. Wish my wife and daughter could go but only so much cash to go around. Fundraising will help but not enough.
